Personality: Maria is a an overprotective glob of woman. She lives to protect and care for others even those she barely knows. Though she never had any Maria, loves children which includes moody teenagers who seem to like to disrespect their elders. She knows how hard it is to be a teenager so she cuts her students slack and talks to them as if they were friends not students. She doesn't see the point in hiding who she really is just because she's an adult.

Set aside her protectiveness, she's very laid back and will talk to anyone who begins a conversation with her. She's a good listener and you can most likely find her in her classroom talking to one of her students. She often gives good advice even though you'll probably be too busy laughing because she's talking to you with a cigarette hanging from her mouth and wearing a pair of big sun glasses. She can tell peoples emotions so this kind of the reason she's such a big help to others, because she doesn't want anyone to have to walk around hurting. Its just plain wrong.

History: Growing up on the south side of San Juan Maria didn’t really have a healthy childhood. Born into the Sanchez family Maria’s, who was known as Elena at the time, didn’t really have much control over her life. Her older brothers and sister and even her father had dedicated their lives to the Latino bloods. When she was three, she lost three of her older brothers in a gang war and soon after at the age of six her father followed. As she grew up, she realized that she too would be subjected to join this lifetime so why not accept it. At the age of ten, she was jumped into the gang along with her older sister. Though it hurt like nothing she’d ever felt before she knew she’d be protecting her family this way.

By the age of eleven Elena had been expelled from her middle school and soon dropped out leaving her more time to spend running the streets. It wasn’t long before she got into her first gang fight and came out without her sister. She’d been shanked with a broken bottle and had bled out in the middle of the street. It hurt but there wasn’t much she could do, she’d lost all of her older siblings and she was the last. She soon realized her only sister (left that is) who was only five at the time would grow up into the same world and that wasn’t something she wanted.

On the eve of her fifteenth birthday on her way home from the market with goodies for little Antonella, Elena was encountered by a strange man who told her words which she would soon hold dear to her. She was marked and after much debate and heart ache, she left her sister to join the San Juan House of Night. There she found her passion for dance and met the boy whom she thought was going to be the love of her life. She wrote to her mother and sister daily. It was in one of those letters that she found out her father was shot and killed in a drive bye.

As the years, progressed Maria fell even more in love with her fellow fledgling lover who was named Macario. At the end of her last year at SJHON she found him in bed with another fledgling and she couldn’t take it. She hadn’t known why she hadn’t looked closer at his aura. He was only using her he never really loved her. He thought he owned her and that she was his property, like most men in that day and age did.

After completing the change she went back to her home with the thought of what Macario had said to her on her mind. He’d promised that if he couldn’t have her no man would and that he’d make sure to meet sweet innocent Antonella. Not wanting this to come of her sister Elena changed her name and ran away to Chicago. There he’d never find her, she would make sure of it. By that time Antonella had been marked herself and there was no way either of them could exist without other followers of Nyx. Soon after she started researching into it she found a job opening for a Spanish teacher at the CHON and soon applied. It was then that little Antonella was enrolled into the school and Maria’s application was accepted.
