Devyn sat on a bench in the courtyard with a small journal on his lap and a pen in hands, which he tapped lightly against his jaw as he looked up at the moon above thinking. It hadn’t been long since he had come to Chicago’s house of night, completing his journey on his own as he no longer needed his mentor and tracker to protect him. His mentor had headed back west where they had come from leaving Devyn on his own. It hadn’t been long since Devyn had become a full-fledged red Vampyre but he didn’t feel too much different then he had when he was a fledgling. In fact he often was mistaken for one if not for the filled in Red Crescent tattoo that he had on his forehead. He was still waiting for the other tattoos that adult vampyres had to follow but they hadn’t shown up yet which he found as strange.
Basking in the light that the moon brought was comforting for him he had arrived as classes were ending and decided that he would take up a post as a teacher when they started up again. But for now he would just relax and get a feel for how this House of Night worked here in Chicago. He only assumed they all worked similarly but he wasn’t one hundred percent sure. On the journal in his lap were a few lines of poetry written in short hand that to some might look like chicken scratch but his personal handwriting was just sloppy sometimes when he didn’t pay close enough attention to it. He loved writing and reading it seemed to be the most constant thing in his new life. You could always write about something new and read about it as well his mentor had told him once. Devyn had been keeping a journal of his thoughts ever since he became a blue fledgling in his third former and still kept the books, which he had been requested to be shipped over to him. Although Devyn hadn’t been a red vampyre for long he still missed the sun a little. As a blue fledgling he had been able to go out in it. Although it had been most unpleasant but not as painful as it was now.
Devyn sighed. It was quiet tonight peaceful but quiet.
