Personality:
Calm, cool, and collected just about sums up Astraea most days. Under even the most stressful and difficult circumstances and situations she always seems to keep herself collected, never showing signs of what’s truly going on beneath her careful façade. However that’s mostly in public. When alone or in the company of those close to her she will on occasion succumb to the emotions and reactions she carefully conceals. It is a necessity after all. Eventually everyone needs to release what they hold back, or in due time they will blow their top, a luxury Astraea can not afford. Truth be told, she’s actually quite the sweet heart, very warm and welcoming, offering her aide to anyone who wishes it. As she says, her door is always open, it just depends on whether or not you’re willing to use it. This kindness and sense of caring always seems to remain subtle though. Something she does not push, for it is her greatest belief that you can not help those who are not willing to be helped.
Astraea is quite the humble woman, always pleasant. She never speaks unless she sees a reason for it, though that is not to say she is incapable of ‘smoozing’ with the best of them, though simply she much prefers using her voice to make an impact. Never the shy one, to those who know her she is rather a free spirit, going with her gut impulses and instincts, believing firmly it is the wish of the goddess. The general consensus is that she is a strong, warm, vibrant woman. To some she may even seem intimidating, no doubt a feat considering her appearance. Confident, inviting, it’s rare to see her reprimand anyone harshly, which makes that rare occurrence all the more unsettling. Though she certainly is anything but a pushover.

Powers:
Astraea was gifted with the affinity of Spirit. With this gift she has the ability of influence, allowing her to affect a persons soul/spirit in terms of energy and emotional flow. It can be used to influence how a person is feeling by intensifying, nullifying, or developing it. For instance if a person is crazed, under her influence she can make them calm, or -contrast- she can drive them to the brink of madness. Or if someone is afraid she can take away that fear entirely, to the point where they could be far too fearless. Energy wise she can drain a person of their energy, possibly to the point of death, or give them hers to point of giving her life. However the effects are reflected on her. What she takes away she receives. If someone is intensely afraid and Astraea gives them the ability to be fearless then she in turn will then gain their sense of fear. If she were to give her life to another -of course- she would die. And if she were to take the life of another she would allow evil into her heart and turn for the worse. This gift also pertains to her mortality. The more energy she gives the more life she takes from herself, though the more energy she takes the more life she gains -though she would never use the latter for such a horrible thing-. However she was given these gifts for a purpose, one the goddess has yet to fully reveal.
In addition she has a mild affinity for Water. She is able to manipulate it, but not produce it. Though she is not as capable as person bestowed with the affinity of water this still remains her preferred gift. Lastly Astraea also has a rather strong gift for foresight. However she only sees tragedy. The visions come to her in dreams, dreams in which either a crow, or -if the matter is truly great- Nyx herself, appears to tell her of the unfortunate events to come. For the most part Astraea does not like to use her gifts, not unless there is due cause. Water manipulation remains the only gift she embraces fully. A fact she does not pride herself in. In that respect she often feels as though she has failed Nyx, though she is certain they were given to her for a higher purpose which has yet to come.
History:
Alice Katherine Brownfeld had always seen things… differently, always thinking outside of the box. A quality not much appreciated in the high class, stuck up, society she grew up in. The kind where family secrets are never to be told and ‘proper’ was a term thrown around all too often. Young Ladies were not supposed to be into cars or rock music or mud, they weren’t supposed to say the first thing that came to mind, or put their elbows on the dinner table. Young ladies weren’t supposed to do half the things Alice did, which is why her parents had a tendency of referring to her as ‘The Headache’. In all due respect, of course, her parents probably had no right to refer to her as anything other than ‘Stranger’. Her father was a lawyer, one of the best in London, and her mother… well her mother was a drunk with a pill habit that would eventually kill her.
For the most part Alice and her twin brother Christopher (who was oldest by three minutes, a fact she used to love to remind him of) were raised by a live in nanny, Flora. Their older siblings Jane and James had gotten the privilege of a sober Mrs. Brownfeld when they were young. So when Flora was hired shortly after the twins were born, both elder Brownfeld children were already in their mid and late teens. To say Christopher and Alice were unplanned might’ve been an understatement. Still, though they lacked in parental love, they never wanted for anything. Honestly to most it may seem odd that neither child spoiled, it would seem their in born nature would prevail over nurture.
At the age of fifteen the tracker came to them, marking the twins with matching hallow crescents of the goddess. Their parents, not taking the news so well, promptly sent the pair away to the London House of Night, making it clear that they would no longer have anything to do with them. They believed them to be ‘cursed abominations’, sent to ‘ruin the Brownfeld name’. Alice took the abandonment worse than her brother. Withdrawing, that spark within her fading into something duller, less fierce. Alice took the name Astraea Lark, forgetting the Alice and the ‘good Brownfeld name’ all together.
Astraea threw herself into her studies, remaining on the fringes of school society, finding peace only within the quiet she sought to surround herself with. As a fifth former she developed her dreams, visions of things to come, both good and bad. Honestly it was the scariest thing of her life the first time one of her dreams came true. It was the most vile sense of dejavu she has ever experienced. At the start of the following year her affinity for spirit and minor affinity for water made themselves known, abilities pertaining to both showing weak at first. The same year she was asked to lead the dark daughters, a role she accepted graciously. Her fate as a high priestess was then sealed and for the remainder of the year until her change and subsequent graduation she stuck close to her mentor.
Astraea pursued a higher education immediately after her graduation and through dedicated study, and a hell of a lot of hard work, she was able to obtain a degree earlier than was to be expected. Astraea went on to be paired with the Madrid House of Night High Priestess as a mentor, to finish her training as a high priestess. While there she worked to develop and better understand her gifts while also teaching English and English Literature. It was there that she also met one Fintan Asar, a slightly older were cat who took one look at her and knew what he was meant to do. For two whole years their attraction and feelings that surpassed ‘friendly’ or ‘acceptable’ -though fought by both- grew. That is until three months ago when Astraea under went the most life changing experience of her life.
Her head hit first. Now Although falling from a balcony three stories up thanks to a faulty banister might put a damper on anyone’s day, it may be safe to say that Astraea was a bit of a special case. It wasn’t like she meant to die, even though it wasn’t a common occurrence it was quite possible for a vampire to be clumsy at times. Also how was she to know that the railing was loose? To say she survived maybe a loose term to some, but the truth is that she was pulled from the land of the dead and thrust back into the world of the living. Something Fintan is eternally grateful for.
Astraea does not talk about what happened, not the incident nor what happened while she was ‘dead’, not even with her love. Honestly she’s still a bit bewildered, though, oddly, she managed to recover quickly, at least semi recover. Her abilities and affinity remained in tact, though her visions were altered, now she can only foretell death or tragedy. The biggest change, aside from her intensified lust for blood, which she fights like hell, would be her markings and shift in personality. Her marking turned a ruby red, something that no doubt bewildered everyone. Meanwhile her personality shifted, largely for the better, she became slightly more open, much more warm, and sweet. Then of course there was Fintan. After witnessing her fall to her brief death he could no longer restrain what he felt, luckily even after death she felt the same. In spite of the stigma the pair have decided to act on what they believe can only be instinct or fate and be with one another. Although they keep their relationship low key in the public eye, they make no effort hide it.
Two months after the transformation she received an invitation for the House of Night, Chicago. They were in need of a High Priestess who could help with the recent ‘red fledgling’ appearance, and after hearing of her asked for her assistance. Feeling it was something she was meant to do Astraea agreed, taking on the role of Red High Priestess and Spanish teacher. Of course Fintan followed, even more protective than before, and now here she is, trying her hardest to adjust and feeling in her very bones that she was meant to help others like her.[THE PUPPETEER]
